Activities in Svalbard
The Polarrigg is a good starting point for arctic experiences, or simply to unwind from everyday life. We’ll help you put together your perfect itinerary and we’re more than happy to give you suggestions or book activities to make your stay at Svalbard the most memorable of your life.
Dog sledding
Enjoy a magical trip with a pack of beautiful lively dogs as you travel along the most stunning of landscapes. Dog sledding trips during the Svalbard winter are definitely a must for any adventurer visiting Longyearbyen, an experience you will not want to miss. In the summertime, the trip is slightly different and the dogs pull you along the coastline on a cart with wheels where you get to see some of Longyearbyen’s best views. In winter, you can take a longer trip which includes a visit to an incredible ice cave.
Snowmobile
When it comes to scooter season in Svalbard, nothing is more fun and exhilarating than taking one of the many trips out of town to visit nearby settlements, frozen waterfalls, glaciers and the most impressive icebergs protruding from the frozen ocean at the East Coast of Spitsbergen.
Fjord cruise
When the light comes back to Svalbard and the winter ice starts to retreat, boat season begins. By May, there are many trips to the nearby settlements of Barentsburg and Pyramiden and some fantastic small boat safari’s to visit a walrus colony or magnificent bird cliffs. Along the way, there is always a possibility that you could spot some seals, polar bears or maybe a whale!
Hiking
Whether you come in the summer or winter, hiking in the area around Longyearbyen is a must. Hiking on the snowy mountaintops in winter is a magical experience and the views are breathtaking. If you’re here when we still have night time, you might catch a glimpse of the Aurora Boralis if you’re lucky! And in summer, it is equally as beautiful, you may even find a fossil on your trip…
